Kid Rock to become a grandfather
Rock and Roll Jesus. Son of Detroit. Michigan’s own Kid Rock has given himself a lot of titles, and now he can add “Grandpa” to that list. US Weekly reports that the mega rockstar’s son, Bob Ritchie Jr., is expecting his first child with his girlfriend. The unnamed girlfriend is four months along with a baby girl, according to the magazine’s source. Ritchie Jr., 21, is Rock’s son from a relationship with ex-girlfriend Kelley South Russell. Rock won a custody battle with Russell in 2000.
Denzel parties, then detoxes
After a month partying on a yacht with his wife, actor Denzel Washington spent two weeks in a detox residence in Orange County, TMZ reported. Entertainment Tonight says that he was merely conducting a health cleanse before going back to work. His publicist told ET that this routine is “nothing new.” “He does this health cleanse every time he’s about to go back to work and start his conditioning and nutritional program.” Washington’s next project is “The Equalizer,” due in theaters next month.
Gloria Estefan musical to hit Broadway next year
Broadway will get a Cuban beat next year when “On Your Feet!” hits the stage. The show tells the life story of Latin pop star Gloria Estefan and husband Emilio Estefan. The show features Gloria’s hits, as well as new music written by the Estefans. Sergio Trujillo (“Jersey Boys”) is on board as choreographer and two-time Tony Award winner Jerry Mitchell will direct. Before Broadway, “On Your Feet!” comes to Chicago’s Oriental Theatre June 2-July 5. Audition videos are being accepted at onyourfeetmusical.com.
Two memorials planned for Dick Wagner
Musician Dick Wagner, who passed away in July, will be memorialized Sept. 6 at 1 p.m. at the Rochester Church of the Nazarene, 1799 Walton in Rochester Hills. The guitarist and songwriter who worked with Alice Cooper, Lou Reed, Kiss and others, will also be honored at a concert this fall. Details are still forming for the local concert, which will benefit Children’s Miracle Network.
■ Christina Aguilera and fiance Matt Rutler welcomed daughter Summer Rain Rutler, on Saturday. This is the second child for the pop star, who has a son Max Liron, 6, from her marriage to Jordan Bratman.
■“20/20” co-anchor Elizabeth Vargas has returned to rehab, according to a statement released by Vargas and ABC. “We look forward to having her back at ABC News when she feels ready to return,” ABC News said of Vargas, who was also treated last fall.
■Punk musician Billy Rath died after a long illness at age 66. He was best known as bass player for Johnny Thunders and the Heartbreakers.
