Leave it to the ever so humble Motown recording artist KEM to top the charts with his fourth dynamic studio album and give the credit to everyone else. “It’s a testament to the great work done by my manager and my record label,” KEM said during a phone conversation yesterday. The two-time Grammy-nominated artist’s latest offering soared to No.1 on the R&B Albums chart, and also is No. 3 in the country on Billboard’s Top 200 chart. The album includes guest appearances from Snoop Dogg on “Downtown,” Ron Isley on “My Favorite Thing,” and Kemistry Records artist L’Renee, with her debut single on “Don’t Say Goodbye.” “This is a coup for Detroit as well,” KEM continued. “It lets everyone know that there is still good, classic R&B music coming out of this city.” During the month of August, KEM set out on a four-week promotional KEM Album IV Preview Tour, which helped catapult his single, “It’s You,” to the No. 1 spot on the Urban AC chart a week prior to releasing “Promise to Love.” The lead single is currently at No. 1 on the urban adult contemporary chart for a second-consecutive week and No. 1 on the Billboard adult R&B chart.
Holy cupcakes, Batman!
Folks were wondering what was going on at Just Baked Detroit recently when the popular cupcake store was inexplicably closed. Turns out it was for a secret movie shoot. “I asked if we could supply a treat for the crew, knowing it was Batman,” said Chief Cupcake Officer Pam Turkin. The bakers at Just Baked came up with an awesome Batman cake with accompanying cupcakes. “As I was about to cut the cake, the producer asked me to wait,” Pam continued. “She wanted to bring someone over to see it. Within a few minutes I looked up and there was Ben Affleck. He loved the Batman cake, took many pictures, told me how great the cake was. As he walked away, he was texting his wife. He told me he wanted her to know he wanted a cake just like this for his birthday.”
