Singer Amy Grant stunned and delighted the audience at a Macomb County Habitat for Humanity fundraiser Saturday night when she donated her fee back to the organization.
Grant, 53, a six-time Grammy Award winner in gospel categories, was the headliner at Macomb Habitat’s annual dinner.
Concluding an hour of singing and speaking to an appreciative crowd of 500 at Fern Hill Golf Club in Clinton Township, Grant paused.
“I got paid to be here,” she said, and then she explained that in her line of work, a check gets split in a number of ways.
“My slice, I think, needs to go back to Habitat for Humanity,” she said.
The announcement drew a prolonged standing ovation.
