Native Detroit filmmaker Lawrence Lamont, 25, was over the moon when he learned that the music video he directed for his longtime buddy, Detroit rapper Big Sean, has enjoyed well over 20 million views. Lamont, who left the Motor City nearly two years ago for sunny L.A., was back in Detroit over the holidays when he got the news. The video for the song “IDFWU” features a number of star cameos from the rap world, including E-40, Teyana Taylor,Big Boi, DJ Mustard and most notably Kanye West, who produced the single with DJ Mustard.

“Sean is a consummate professional, and having Kanye’s presence and input was beyond words,” said Lamont, who has one feature film, “Corner Store,” and several short films, music videos and commercials to his credit. “Kanye gave me a few suggestions regarding the aesthetics of his scene, but he took direction very well.” Some more big-name artists have already lined up to have Lamont direct their videos, but he’s not ready to give up any names. “I’m all-round creative. I want to do it all. I’m going to do it all.” By the way, the concept of the Big Sean video is a football game that Big Sean’s team wins — and their name is, well yes, the Lions.

Ruth back to the rescue

Where’s Ruth Spencer? With so many local TV personalities leaving (Andrea Isom from Fox 2 is the latest, leaving the station to explore non-news horizons), many of our readers have been wondering where the veteran WDIV-TV Local 4 talent has been, and so did we. Marla Drutz, vice president and general manager of WDIV, tells us that Spencer requested a personal leave of absence, “but she’s due back I think at the end of next week, so we’re going to see her very shortly.” The station doesn’t disclose why employees request personal leaves, Drutz added.

Half-Pint goes down a few notches

Actress Melissa Gilbert underwent successful surgery at an undisclosed hospital in Michigan to remove her breast implants. The 50-year-old actress, who lives in Howell with actor-husband Timothy Busfield, Tweeted Jan. 6: “In recovery. Surgery went great. No (sic) the recovery begins. #boobies!” She explained in a blog post that, dating back to her “Little House on the Prairie” days, she had her bra padded over the years, to the point where she developed body image issues over her lack of embonpoint. But increasingly she was unhappy with the implants, as she explained on the blog: “A. I am concerned for my health and 2. I don’t like the way they look or feel. Frankly, I’d like to be able to take a Zumba class without the fear that I’ll end up with two black eyes.”
