"Judge Mathis" gives Detroit courts the spotlight next week
Nationally-syndicated court show "Judge Mathis" will stock the docket with cases from Metro Detroit next week, Monday-Friday. A Detroit native himself, Judge Greg Mathis will make determinations in the case of a Redford Charter Township woman who is being sued by her brother for crashing his car and a suit in which a Detroit woman accuses her ex-girlfriend of vandalizing her car after she was falsely accused of cheating. The drama airs at 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. on CW.
Brian Williams' credibility challenged
"NBC Nightly News" anchor Brian Williams is facing a credibility crisis after he apologized on air Wednesday for misremembering an incident on a helicopter in Iraq in 2003. The popular news anchor falsely claimed the helicopter was hit by a grenade and repeated the story several times since then. So far, NBC brass has been quiet about the inflated tale and the top anchor's apology, but the backlash is growing. The New York Daily News calls Williams' mea culpa fake, and The Baltimore Sun media critic David Zurawick writes: "If credibility means anything to NBC News, Brian Williams will no longer be managing editor and anchor of the evening newscast by the end of the day Friday." The Iraq helicopter incident spawned new questions about Williams' coverage of Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans. He recalls getting sick with dysentery after ingesting flood water, but Dr. Brobson Lutz, former health director for the city, told the New Orleans Advocate that he doesn't recall a single dysentery case during that time. Williams' claims of seeing a dead body float by him in the French Quarter are also being challenged because reports say that area remained largely dry.
Dionne Warwick fell in shower; Bobbi's relatives fight
Singer and cousin of the late Whitney Houston, Dionne Warwick slipped and fell in the shower last month, TMZ has learned. Warwick had surgery on her ankle and was hospitalized for nearly two weeks. TMZ points out that the singer's 911 call came in exactly one week before Houston's daughter Bobbi Kristina Brown was found unresponsive in her bathtub. As of press time Friday, Brown was still in a medically induced coma, and many reports indicate that she will not recover. On Friday two members of her family — her aunt Tina Brown and Tina's son Shayne Brown— were involved in a physical fight at an Atlanta hotel at a gathering with Bobby Brown, Bobbi Kristina's father, who turned 46 Thursday.
