Diddy released after alleged assault at UCLA

Music mogul Diddy (aka Sean Combs) was arrested Monday night after allegedly assaulting someone with a kettleball at the athletic facility of UCLA, where his son is a junior and a defensive back on the football team. Officials have not revealed who was assaulted or why, but did say that no one was seriously injured. Diddy, 45, posted $50,000 bail that night. TMZ reports that it was the football coach that Diddy assaulted, and that he was arrested for three counts of assault with a deadly weapon, one count of making terrorist threats and one count of battery.

Nickelback cancels tour, including its DTE date

A medical emergency involving Nickelback’s frontman, Chad Kroeger, has forced the multi-platinum rock band to cancel its North American summer tour, including the Aug. 1 concert at DTE Energy Music Theatre. Kroeger has an operable cyst on his voice box. The Canadian rocker will have surgery next month, followed by plenty of vocal rest per doctor’s orders. Refunds are available at the point of purchase. The European dates of Nickelback’s “No Fixed Address Tour” are scheduled to start as planned on Sept. 30.

Famed composer James Horner dies in plane crash

Academy Award-winning film composer James Horner, 61, died this week when the small plane he was piloting crashed near Santa Barbara, according to the Hollywood Reporter. Horner was known for crafting the scores to classic films like “Field of Dreams,” “Braveheart” and “Titanic.” For the latter, Horner and lyricist Will Jennings penned the mega hit “My Heart Will Go On” sung by Celine Dion. His “Titanic” score sold 27 million copies.

Detroit comedian wins Great American Comedy Festival

Michigan comic Brad Wenzel beat out 20 other comedians to place first at last weekend’s Great American Comedy Festival at the Johnny Carson Theatre in Norfolk, Virginia. The festival, which drew more than 1,000 according to the Norfolk Daily News, also honored Carson. Catch Wenzel, 22, locally this Saturday at Laff Tracks Comedy Club in Novi.
