Singer Katy Perry helps homeless Detroit veterans
Pop star Katy Perry, who apparently has a soft spot for veterans, donated a VIP Katy Perry Prizmatic Tour concert package to Veterans Matter, a national program that helps H.U.D. and the V.A. house homeless veterans. The group auctioned off the package to a fan, Scott Vaughn of Oakton, Virginia, and with the proceeds, five veterans in Detroit and 17 in Austin, Texas, will receive housing deposits. “It is so important that we help those who fought for our freedom,” Perry told Vaughn when he visited her backstage.
California drought patrol nabs Kylie Jenner and Tyga
A new “drought patrol” is starting to go after water wasters in Calabasas, California, a town full of celebrities which has been guilty of using more water than most cities, according to the Hollywood Reporter. Among the water scofflaws caught using too much water on their manicured lawns in June, according to the publication, are Kylie Jenner, who lives in a $2.7 million, 5,000-square-foot Mediterranean mansion in Calabasas’ gated Oaks community, and her rapper boyfriend, Tyga (aka Michael Stevenson), who rents a $10.2 million, 12,000-square-foot Tuscan nouveau villa a few blocks away. The allowed amount of water for lawn and garden use adds up to 15 minutes of watering two times a week.
Caitlynn faces lawsuits
Caitlynn Jenner might not be criminally prosecuted for the February Pacific Coast Highway car accident that claimed a woman’s life, but according to TMZ, the former Olympian is about to be sued for it. The estate of Kim Howe, the woman who died after her car was pushed by Jenner’s into oncoming traffic, was being sued for $18.5 million by the five occupants of the Hummer struck by her Lexus. The tabloid claims that the Hummer occupants plan an identical lawsuit against Jenner, charging that her negligence set the whole sequence of unfortunate events in action. Jenner is already being sued by Howe’s stepchildren.
Lohan running amuck
Lindsay Lohan, the reformed (we thought) wild child and sometime actress, reverted to form last week, according to the New York Post’s Page Six, running around her villa in Florence, Italy, naked, claiming she’d been slipped a mickey at a wedding reception. The happy couple are Justin Etzin, consul general and ambassador of tourism for the Seychelles, and model Lana Zakocela. But guests told the paper that it was four days of “one thing after another” with Lohan, who painted her nails and looked at her phone during the wedding ceremony. The actress also claimed some of her jewelry was stolen. Asked about her behavior, Etzin said, “None of those things are true.”

Nicki Minaj will open the 2015 MTV Video Music Awards, which air at 9 p.m. Sunday on MTV. Performers include Justin Bieber, The Weeknd, Pharrell Williams, Demi Lovato, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, among others. Miley Cyrus will host. Cyrus, by the way, revealed in an interview that presidential candidate Donald Trump called to tell her he knew that everybody was talking about it, but he “loved” her controversial twerking appearance at the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards. How will Cyrus top it? Dozens may tune in to find out.
