Plus news on Eric Church’s surprise release ‘Mr. Misunderstood’

Lambert not bothered by Shelton-Stefani romance

Recently divorced “Voice” coaches Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton are now dating, but it’s not like Shelton’s ex, Miranda Lambert, is bothered by it one bit. At least that’s what a “source” close to the singer is telling Us Magazine in wake of the Shelton-Stefani news. “She doesn’t care,” the source says. “She’s divorced, and he can date who he wants.” Lambert alluded to her divorce at this week’s CMAs when, while accepting the trophy for Female Vocalist of the Year, she told fans she “needed a bright spot this year.” The couple split in July after four years of marriage.

Church’s ‘Misunderstood’ release plan

Country singer Eric Church surprised fans this week with an out-of-nowhere new album, “Mr. Misunderstood.” The album’s title was an accurate representation of its distribution plan, as well; retailers were surprised to learn of its existence, and weren’t allowed to order enough copies to stock their shelves, Billboard reports. Church’s label, Universal Nashville, told retailers the album was a Christmas music compilation, which led to confusion and in some cases feelings of bitterness. “This release could be the sequel to Spinal Tap — how not to distribute an album,” one merchandiser told Billboard. “It’s like they went to two high school kids and asked them to come up with some creative ideas on how to release an album.” Church’s previous album sold 288,000 copies its first week; sales figures for “Mr. Misunderstood” will be released next week.

Rhymes pleads guilty

Rapper Busta Rhymes pled guilty this week to charges stemming from an August incident where he threw a protein drink at a Manhattan gym employee. Rhymes, real name Trevor Smith, hurled a cardboard container of Muscle Milk — chocolate flavor, in case you were wondering — at a front-desk worker at a Steel Gym after several days of arguments, Rolling Stone reports. Rhymes reportedly became agitated when he was told he was not allowed to bring a videographer into the gym to film his workout. After initially being charged with second-degree assault, the charges were reduced to harassment. As part of his plea, Rhymes must attend anger management classes, but the incident will not reflect on his criminal record.
