‘Beauty and the Beast’ cast celebrates 25th year, rumors swirl around Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner reuniting and more celebrity news
Two notable Michigan natives will teach area ballet classes for free
Wonder what it takes to be a famous dancer? This week, Nehemiah Kish, a principal dancer with The Royal Ballet in London, and Precious Adams, a ballerina with the English National Ballet in London, are leading a ballet class for anyone who wants to join the Detroit Institute of Arts’ “Becoming a Dancer” series. Both dancers are Michigan natives. Kish, who grew up in Caro, joined the National Ballet of Canada School at age 13 and has performed in “Cinderella,” “Swan Lake” and “The Nutcracker” for The Royal Ballet. Adams, of Canton, trained at the Academy of Russian Classical Ballet in Wixom and won two prizes at the Prix de Lausanne in 2014. The two will kick off their first dance class at Mount Clemens High School Thursday at 7 p.m. free of charge. Three more will be held in the DIA’s Rivera Court Friday at 7 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. and Saturday at 1 p.m. The demonstrations are free with museum admission. (Don’t forget, DIA admission is free for Wayne, Oakland and Macomb county residents.)
‘Beauty and the Beast’ cast celebrates 25th anniversary
This year, the tale as old as time is marking its 25th anniversary since “Beauty and the Beast” hit theaters in 1991. A panel at Beverly Hills’ Samuel Goldwyn Theater revealed on Monday a few behind-the-scenes secrets. For one, Angela Lansbury, the voice of Mrs. Potts, says the Oscar-winning theme song was originally more rock oriented. According to The Hollywood Reporter, after Lansbury heard the ballad, she asked composer Alan Menken and lyricist Howard Ashman if she could sing “a more realistic version of how a teapot would sing it.” She said, “I did my version, and I’m happy to say that version became the version.” Another fun fact: Producer Don Hahn nearly canceled the recording session when Lansbury’s flight to New York was delayed. Arriving a bit late, Lansbury recorded the song in one take. “It was perfect, and we put in the movie,” Hahn says.
Are Bennifer getting back together?
Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck are vacationing in London for a month with their three kids, according to People. Affleck is there to film “Justice League” coming out in November 2017. Since arriving in Europe last week, the family has been spotted at a Paris ice cream shop and visiting the Eiffel Tower — fueling rumors the two may reunite. “Ben wants Jen back,” a source told People, but “Jen is not ready to take Ben back.” The Hollywood couple split in June after 10 years of marriage; they have not filed for divorce.
