Idina Menzel tapped for remake of ‘Beaches’
The Lifetime network has given the OK for a television movie remake of the heartbreaking 1988 film “Beaches.” Tony Award winning star Idina Menzel is set to play the lead role of CC, Bette Midler’s character in the original. Menzel will sing “Wind Beneath My Wings” and “The Glory of Love,” plus new songs written just for the remake, which is set to premiere next year.
Twitter account hacked
Shortly after appearing at the Democratic National Convention this week in support of Hillary Clinton, comedian Sarah Silverman said her Twitter account had been hacked. She referred to a post from Monday that read “America, are you awakening?” with a link to an anti-Clinton video and the hashtags #Hilary4Prison (sic) and #Anonymous. “My Twitter acct (sic) got hacked this is not me,” she tweeted. Silverman was a vocal BernieSanders supporter throughout the primaries, but when she appeared at the DNC, she spoke out in support of Clinton and said “to the Bernie or Bust crowd ... you’re being ridiculous.”
Hillary Clinton inadvertently quotes Lil Wayne
During her speech at the DNC on Thursday, Hillary Clinton said “when there are no ceilings, the sky’s the limit.” She likely wasn’t expecting the internet to make the connection between what she said and rapper Lil Wayne’s lyrics. On his mix tape “No Ceilings,” he has a song called “The Sky’s the Limit.” TMZ caught up with Lil Wayne to see how he felt about it, and he expressed mild shock, and then indicated that he’s cool with her using his lyrics. “I (expletive) with Hillary,” he said.
Justin Bieber turned down $5M to perform at RNC
TMZ reports that pop star Justin Bieber was offered $5 million to perform at the Republican National Convention but declined. According to reports. Biebs, who is Canadian, was told the event was “not political.” The gossip outlet reports that Bieber’s manager Scooter Braun is a Hillary Clinton supporter and has even held fundraisers for her in his home, which may have been a factor in the singer deciding not to perform.
Wisconsin man makes Steve Buscemi part of the family
A family prank has gone viral. Clare Manion tweeted that her brother, Kevin Manion, had been swapping out framed family photos in their home for pics of actor Steve Buscemi. He’d change one photo each day, she said. Their father noticed on the second day, but it took mom until day five. She wasn’t mad, though. “She was in the kitchen and could tell something was wrong with my brother’s senior photo,” Manion told Buzzfeed. “Like the colors were wrong, and his head was too big, so she walked over to it and started laughing so hard.”
