Avalon Villiage director gets house from Degeneres
Mama Shu got a pleasant surprise from Ellen Degeneres — a $100,000 house for her Avalon Village in Highland Park — when she appeared on “The Ellen Degeneres Show” on Wednesday. The prefab home will be delivered fully assembled with energy-efficient features. Upon hearing the news, Shu, director of Avalon Village, jumped out of her chair, yelling “Oh my God!” as she turned around to see a picture of the home. Grinning ear to ear, she wrapped her hands around Degeneres to give her a hug. Shu (who’s legal name is Shamayim Harris) has raised nearly $250,000 through a Kickstarter campaign to develop the sustainable eco-village that will include urban gardens, sports fields, stores operating from shipping containers and a Homework House for students. “People think that things are so big and so unreachable,” she said on the show. “What we’re showing is that you can really, really do this. I’m not an urban planner. I guess I just have a bit of an imagination. Somebody had to do it, so I did.”
Snoop Dogg to receive ‘I Am Hip-Hop’ award
Snoop Dogg will be honored with the “I Am Hip-Hop” award at the 11th annual BET Hip-Hop Awards airing Oct. 4. Snoop will receive the award Saturday when the the show is taped in Atlanta. The rapper released his 14th album, “Coolaid,” in July and is on a High Road Tour with Wiz Khalifa. He’s also branching into television, executive producing the MTV comedy “Mary + Jane” that premiered this month. His next project: The VH1 series “Martha and Snoop’s Dinner Party,” where he and Martha Stewart host celebrity guests. “I’ve never met anyone like Martha Stewart,” he told Rolling Stone on Wednesday. “When we come together, it’s a natural combination of love, peace and harmony.” The series will premiere this fall.
Timberlake, Spears may get back together
Justin Timberlake and Britney Spears might get back together — to collaborate, that is. The former couple broke up in 2002 after a three-year relationship. (He’s now married to Jessica Biel, and she’s enjoying the single life.) JT found out his ex is interested in working together at the premiere for his Netflix documentary “Justin Timberlake + the Tennessee Kids,” when E! News’ Marc Malkinbroke the news. Timberlake was all for it. “I apologize for not being in the know … I’m accessible,” he said. “Give us a call!” On “Most Requested Live with Romeo” last month, Spears listed Timberlake, as well as Aerosmith and Gwen Stefani, as her dream collaborators.
