Isiah Thomas partners with Cheurlin Champagne
NBA Hall of Famer Isiah Thomas is in town Tuesday debuting the Cheurlin Champagne collection. The Detroit Pistons legend will introduce this new champagne to the Detroit market via his ISIAH Imports. To promote this, Thomas will appear at Papa Joe’s in Birmingham at 4 p.m. Tuesday and House of Pure Vin on Woodward in Detroit at 7 p.m. Purchase a bottle of Cheurlin Champagne and he’ll sign it at either event.
Comedy Central wants to buy you a beer
To celebrate the new series “Detroiters” debuting Tuesday night, Comedy Central wants to buy some real Detroiters a beer. Visit one of the participating bars Tuesday night during the airing of the premiere episode, and a round of beers will be bought and paid for by Comedy Central. Some of the participating businesses include the Anchor Bar, Checker Bar & Grill, Garden Bowl, El Club, Jumbo’s Bar, Marble Bar, Painted Lady Lounge, PJ’s Lager House and Ye Olde Tap Room. Jamie Lynn Spears’ daughter in ATV accident
Jamie Lynn Spears’ daughter Maddie, 8, is in critical condition after an ATV accident Sunday, according to TMZ. Reports say she was under water for several minutes after the Polaris ATV she was riding on flipped over while on a hunting expedition. She was airlifted to a hospital. Jamie Lynn is Britney Spears’ younger sister, and made headlines in 2007 when, at age 16, she announced her pregnancy.
Lady Gaga heads to Little Caesars Arena in November
Kid Rock finally has some company on the Little Caesars Arena concert calendar. Following her performance during Sunday’s Super Bowl halftime show, Lady Gaga plans a Nov. 7 concert at downtown’s new arena, tour promoters announced early Monday. Tickets for the show go on sale Feb. 20; prices are TBA. Citi cardholders will have access to a pre-sale beginning at 9 a.m. Feb. 15. The Detroit show is part of Gaga’s 48-date global tour, which kicks off Aug. 1 in Vancouver. The tour snakes through North America in August and September, heads to South America and Europe in September and October and returns to the U.S. in November and December. The tour is in support of “Joanne,” Gaga’s fifth studio set, which was released in October and debuted at No. 1 on Billboard’s Top 200 albums chart.
More concerts announced
Deftones and Rise Against are bringing their summer tour to the newly-renamed Michigan Lottery Amphitheatre at Freedom Hill on June 10. Tickets, $29.50 lawn and $49.50-$69.50 pavilion, go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday. This concert is part of Live Nation’s “Ticket to Rock,” which includes a general admission lawn seat to this concert, plus Incubus and Jimmy Eat World (July 23 at DTE Energy Music Theatre) and a ticket to Korn and Stone Sour (July 30 at DTE Energy Music Theatre) for $55, plus fees. Visit LiveNation.com. Also announced this week, John Legend will bring his Darkness and Light Tour to Meadow Brook Amphitheatre on June 16. Tickets, $33-$132.50, go on sale 10 a.m. Friday. Michigan Lottery Amphitheatre at Freedom Hill will host Steve Miller Band with Peter Frampton on July 1 and Santana on Aug. 9. Tickets to both shows go on sale 10 a.m. Friday. Tickets for the second annual Jazz Spectacular on June 18 and the Beach Boys with the Righteous Brothers on July 27 will go on sale at 10 a.m. Saturday.
Founding Cure member in town this week
Lol Tolhurst, a founding member of British rock band the Cure, is in town this week touting his new book “Cured: the Tale of Imaginary Boys.” The memoir includes stories of his time with the band, his friendship with front man Robert Smith and Tolhurst’s struggles with alcoholism. Tolhurst will be in Hamtramck from 7:30-8:30 p.m. Wednesday for a book signing and discussion at Lo & Behold Records and Books, 10022 Jos Campau. On Thursday, the British musician will DJ at Zeke’s Rock and Roll BBQ, 240 W. Nine Mile in Ferndale. He’ll be available for book signing and meeting fans. Detroit-based DJs Pleasure Kitten and Aaron Hingst also will spin new wave and alternative tunes. Thursday’s event will start at 9 p.m. and there is a $12 cover.
