UFC superstar Ronda Rousey is engaged
They’re lovers and fighters. UFC star Ronda Rousey announced she is engaged to her UFC fighter boyfriend Travis Browne. TMZ reports that Browne asked Rousey for her hand — with a big diamond ring, of course — about a week ago under a waterfall in New Zealand. The pair have been dating since 2015.
Singer Cuba Gooding Sr. found dead
Soul singer Cuba Gooding Sr. was found dead in his car Thursday in California, TMZ reports. Gooding, father of Academy Award-winning actor Cuba Gooding Jr., was found in his silver Jaguar in Los Angeles. . As a member of the 1970s group the Main Ingredient, Gooding Sr., 72, sang lead on the group’s biggest hit “Everybody Plays the Fool” in 1972.
Burtka to host Mott Hospital gala
Chef and actor David Burtka is set to host the Culinary Gala at this year’s CHAMPS for Mott event, a fundraiser for pediatric research at University of Michigan’s C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital. Burtka, a native of Dearborn, is known for appearing on the CBS sitcom “How I Met Your Mother.” He’s also married to one of the show’s stars, Neil Patrick Harris. The May 20 fundraising gala has a unique setting: the Delta Air Lines hangar at Detroit Metropolitan Airport. A $500 ticket to the 7 p.m. affair gets one access to food from several of Michigan’s most popular restaurants, plus a live auction and dancing with the Dan Rafferty Band. Some of the chefs and restaurants on board include Derik Watson of Bistro 82 in Royal Oak, Ji Hye Kim of Miss Kim in Ann Arbor, John Vermiglio of Grey Ghost in Detroit, Hector Sanz and Juan Carlos Negrete of La Dulce in Royal Oak, Myles Anton of Trattoria Stella in Traverse City, Nikita Sanches of Rock City Eatery in Detroit, Brian Perrone of Slow’s Bar BQ in Corktown and more. Since starting 2014, the CHAMPS for Mott event has raised more than $1.5 million for programs at the hospital. Food Network to film at Eastern Market
A crew from a Food Network show will visit Eastern Market next month to capture footage at Stache International. The restaurant, which recently added a bar and expanded hours, will be featured on an upcoming episode of a Food Network program, but they can’t divulge which show. The filming will be 11 a.m.-6 p.m. May 3 at Stache, 1416 E. Fisher Fwy. The public is invited to show up the day of the filming and eat; the restaurant owners want a packed house. Earlier this week Food Network announced the lineup of the new season of “Food Network Star,” which debuts June 4. One of the new contestants is Metro Detroit private chef and caterer Suzanne Lossia.
