Mariah jokes that Aretha would ‘not approve’ of her singing in the cold

On the Golden Globes red carpet Sunday night, Mariah Carey stopped to talk to Ryan Seacrest about her recent performance on “New Year’s Rockin’ Eve.” In trying to redeem herself from her disastrous performance that rang in 2017, Carey performed without a backing track on Dec. 31 in freezing temperatures. “People loved it and it was not easy,” Seacrest said to her. “I think you said ‘Aretha would not approve of singing in those temperatures.” “She would not,” Carey said. Aretha Franklin is known for being particular about not singing in cold weather or air conditioning.

Justin Timberlake announces Little Caesars Arena date

Little Caesars Arena is getting “Filthy” this spring. Justin Timberlake will play LCA on April 2, promoters announced Monday. The date is part of the singer’s “Man of the Woods Tour,” backing his new album “Man of the Woods,” which is due out Feb. 2. Tickets will go on sale Jan. 22. American Express cardholders will get a first crack at tickets beginning at 10 a.m. Jan. 17. The 27-city “Man of the Woods Tour” kicks off March 13 in Toronto and wraps May 30 in Memphis, Tenn. Timberlake, who is due to perform at halftime of this year’s Super Bowl on Feb. 4, premiered his new single “Filthy” last week.

Tim Allen to host Forgotten Harvest Comedy Night in April

Stand-up comedian Tim Allen will host this year’s Forgotten Harvest Comedy Night at the Fox Theatre. The 26th annual event, which benefits the food rescue organization, will be at 8:30 p.m. April 20. A West Michigan University graduate, Allen co-founded Forgotten Harvest’s Comedy Night and headlined the first two years. In the past, Seth Meyers, Martin Short, Sinbad and Dave Coulier have hosted. Allen was born in Denver but spent his teen years in Birmingham and made his comedy debut at Mark Ridley’s Comedy Castle in Royal Oak. Tickets for Forgotten Harvest’s Comedy Night range from $28.50-$153.50 and go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday via Ticketmaster.com, 313Presents.com and ForgottenHarvest.org. They also can be purchased at the Fox Theatre and Little Caesars box offices or by calling (800) 745-7527.

More concerts announced

Steely Dan and the Doobie Brothers will co-headline a tour coming to DTE Energy Music Theatre on June 26. Tickets are $25 lawn and $29.50-$79.50 for pavilion, plus a limited number of $75 lawn four-packs. Tedeschi Trucks Band will hit the Michigan Lottery Amphitheatre at Freedom Hill on July 21. Tickets are $19.50-$69.50. Tickets for both shows go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday via 313Presents.com, Ticketmaster and other outlets. It’s no joke: Insane Clown Posse will bring their “Slamfest Tour” to the Fillmore Detroit on April 1. Tickets, $25-$50, go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday via LiveNation.com. Atlanta metalcore band Attila also is on the bill for this all-ages show.
