The Fox talent search could be heading to Detroit in the coming weeks
“American Idol” could be headed back to Motown.
Internet reports say the Fox reality competition will be taping episodes at the Fillmore Detroit on Feb. 19, March 4 and March 5. On Camera Audiences, which helps companies book crowds for television show tapings, is soliciting audiences for “Idol” tapings on those three dates.
Per “Idol’s” schedule, the Top 48 contestants — 24 girls, 24 boys — are set to be revealed on the Feb. 18 and 19 episodes, and the March 4 and 5 episodes are set to feature performances from the season’s Top 20 girls and Top 20 boys. The Top 40 performances have been held on the road before; two years ago, the Top 40 finalists performed in Las Vegas.
“Idol” has made several trips to Detroit in the past. Auditions were held in Detroit in 2002 (for season 2) and 2013 (for season 13), and in 2009, the Top 10 contestants visited the Motown Museum and were schooled by mentor Smokey Robinson for a Motown theme week. Motown is one of “Idol’s” most common theme weeks, and “Idol” blog the Idol Pad says a Motown week is on tap for this year’s semi-finalists.
As of press time, “Idol” reps did not respond to a request for comment.
Another Fox show, “So You Think You Can Dance,” is holding auditions at the Fillmore Detroit on Feb. 22.
