The Fox show will also tape two episodes at the Fillmore Detroit Feb. 19
Details are emerging about “American Idol’s” upcoming trip to Detroit.
The show will tape back-to-back episodes at the Fillmore Detroit on Feb. 19, showcasing the season’s Top 12 guys and Top 12 girls. Those episodes will air Feb. 25 (guys) and 26 (girls).
“Idol” will return to the Fillmore Detroit for the first live episodes of the season on March 4 and 5. The March 4 episode will open with the live elimination of four guys, followed by performances from the top eight vote-getters. On March 5 it’s the girls’ turn; four will be eliminated, and the top eight will vie for spots in the season’s top 12, which will be revealed the following week when “Idol” returns to its home in Los Angeles.
Audiences for the three tapings are being solicited through On Camera Audiences, which helps book crowds for television show tapings.
“Idol” has made several trips to Detroit in the past but never for live episodes. Auditions were held in Detroit in 2002 (for season two) and 2013 (for season 13), and in 2009, the Top 10 contestants visited the Motown Museum and were schooled by mentor Smokey Robinson for a Motown theme week. Motown is one of “Idol’s” most common themes and has been featured on the show in seasons one, two, three, eight and 10, while Season 12 featured a “Music of Detroit” week.
“Idol” isn’t the only Fox show hitting Detroit this month; “So You Think You Can Dance” is holding auditions at the Fillmore Detroit on Feb. 22.
