Good truffle flavoring

Truffles — or facsimiles thereof — have been a trend on restaurant menus for some time now. Truffles and truffle oil are crazy expensive. Often it seems like an easy way to charge a heck of a lot more for mac and cheese or fries if you throw it on the menu. But Sabatino Tartufi has introduced a new seasoning to the home chef.

The truffle zest is reasonably priced at around $14 for a 1.76-ounce bottle. And a little goes a long way. The company says the truffle zest has no artificial flavoring with more than 40 percent of the product coming from the natural flavors from actual black truffles. Available online at The company is in the works for supermarket distributions.

One good wine study

Wine, it seems, has become the thing for younger drinkers. A recent study by the Wine Market Council shows that millennials drank around 159.6 million cases of wine last year, an amount that surpasses any other generation. This would amount to 42 percent of all wine drunk in 2015 by people around 35 or younger.

“It is an exciting time in the beverage industry, as we are seeing a younger audience consider wine as their social beverage of choice, along with craft beer and artisan cocktails,” said Shaun Page, beverage development manager at MGM Grand Detroit. “Much of this movement is due to millennials interest in unique experiences, which is why these types of beverages are dominating orders.”
