Detroit – A 22-year-old man has been taken to the hospital after being shot Thursday at Tennie’s Deli on the city’s northwest side.

Detroit Police dispatched to the delicatessen on the 18200 block of West 7 Mile near Southfield Freeway at 3:44 p.m. to a nonfatal shooting.

Police said the victim entered the store, jumped over the counter and the wife of the store owner yelled for her husband. Store owner Johnnie Christopher, 75, feared the store was being robbed, grabbed his gun and fired several shots.

The victim was struck and was in serious consideration when taken to the hospital by medics.

Detroit Police officials have not confirmed if the store owner was charged or arrested.
