Detroit Police recovered more than $44,000 in cash and arrested a 47-year-old man in a drug bust, officials said Wednesday.
The suspect, who has not yet been formally charged, was arrested at about 4 a.m. Saturday in the area of Grand River Avenue and the Interstate 96 service drive, according to authorities.
Police said he was driving a 2017 Ford Edge and failed to stop at a red light.
Officers then saw the same vehicle turn into a parking lot to avoid another traffic signal at Grand River and Schaefer Highway, officials said.
Police then executed a traffic stop. As the officers approached the vehicle, they detected a strong odor of marijuana, authorities said.
After searching the vehicle, police said they found $44,234 in cash, 2,174 grams of crystal meth (about 4.8 pounds) and 3,921 grams (8.6 pounds) of marijuana.
