Warren man Anthony DeAndre Walker is spending his 23rd birthday in Wayne County Jail as he faces charges in a July 2015 homicide in Detroit, records show – and police believe he may have killed a man for his glasses.
Walker, who turns 23 on Tuesday, was denied bond at his arraignment Sunday at 34th District Court in Romulus, which handles weekend arraignments in Wayne County. He faces charges of first-degree murder, felony murder, armed robbery and felony firearm in the July 2015 death of 21-year-old Devin Guidry.
Guidry, police said at the time, was walking with a relative near Outer Drive and Van Dyke about 9 p.m. Monday when he was approached by several people in a car, said Sgt. Cassandra Lewis, then a spokeswoman for the Detroit Police Department.
He was shot once and robbed of personal possessions, Lewis said. Investigators did not reveal what items were taken, but a WDIV (Channel 4) report on the fatal shooting featured his mother saying Devin Guidry’s “glasses and flip flops” were stolen.
Walker is due in court for a probable cause conference on Jan. 31 at 8:30 a.m. and for his preliminary exam on Feb. 7 at 1:30 p.m., both before Judge Lydia Nance Adams at Third Circuit Court.
