A sister and brother, who were enjoying "adult beverages" in the sister's car, had their vehicle, as well as the woman's purse and cellphone, stolen by a man wearing a ski mask early Thursday on Detroit's west side, police said.

The carjacking took place about 12:20 a.m. in the area of McNichols and Vaughan, said Officer Dan Donakowski, a Detroit Police Department spokesman. That's just east of Grand River on the city's west side.

As the siblings were sitting in the sister's green 2006 Mercury Grand Marquis, police say a black male, about 5-feet-4 inches tall, wearing a black ski mask and all black clothing, and carrying a handgun, approached. He opened the driver's-side door and pulled out the woman, 40, and ordered out the man, whose age was not immediately known.

The suspect then drove off with the vehicle and was last seen heading southbound on Vaughan.

Police are investigating.
