U.S. Secretary of Education John King Jr. is scheduled Friday to tour a Warren manufacturing company that provides students with on-the-job training, the White House said Thursday.

King is visiting Michigan to commemorate Manufacturing Day by visiting Proper Tooling International on East 11 Mile on Friday morning and joining a roundtable discussion with students participating in an apprentice program.

On Friday afternoon, he will join U.S. Rep. Dan Kildee, D-Flint Township, for a roundtable discussion at a Flint’s Northwestern High School with students, parents, school officials and community leaders on school-based health.

King will talk about the important role that communities play in helping to shape their schools and education systems, as well as the importance of providing health-care services to students and their families, the White House said in a statement.
