A 14-year-old girl from Monroe County missing since Friday night was found safe in Dearborn Heights, the couty’s sheriff’s office said late Sunday.
Sydney Rhea Keith, who was last seen getting into a tan minivan, possibly a Ford Windstar, near the Inverness Mobile Home Community in Temperance around 8 p.m. Friday, walked into the Dearborn Heights Police Department unharmed around 7:30 p.m. Sunday, according to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.
The sheriff’s office had said Sydney may have been picked up to meet a man she had been communicating with online. A heavyset white woman was driving the van. Later that night, Sydney is seen on bank ATM footage in Toledo, Ohio, after withdrawing $280. Monroe County borders Ohio.
Police believe Sydney was going to meet the man, who hasn’t been identified, she had been corresponding with online, according to the sheriff’s office.
The sheriff’s office said in a statement it is still investigating the circumstances of her disappearance.
