Madison Heights police are investigating a Thursday morning attempted abduction, officials said.

The incident happened at about 8:30 a.m. in the area of Katherine and Edwards avenues near 12 Mile and John R roads, according to Detective Lt. Michael Siladke.

Police said a 10-year-old girl was walking to Edmonson School when she was approached by a white male driving a white vehicle.

The man is described as 40-years-old, medium height, medium build with brown, curly hair, a brown beard with no mustache.

His vehicle is possibly a Ford with a "driveronly.com" sticker on the driver's door. It was also described as having damage to the rear quarter panel near the brake light on the driver's side.

He followed the girl and asked her if she wanted a ride. The girl ran to school to tell the staff about what happened, police said.

Anyone with information about the suspect or the vehicle should call Madison Heights Police at (248) 585-2100.
