A 55-year-old Holly man tried to set his wife on fire after an argument Monday, police said.

The woman, 56, suffered second-degree to third-degree burns and is in a hospital recovering, Holly Police Chief Michael Story said Tuesday. He said officers reported the burns were mostly on her leg.

Officers were called at 6:42 p.m. Monday to the couple's home in a mobile home park located at 4041 Grange Hall Road in the village of Holly, he said.

The incident appears to have been sparked by an argument, Story said.

"They were going at it and it really just got out of hand," he said.

The police chief said the suspect is currently being held at the Oakland County Jail and awaiting charges. Investigators intend to present their case to the Oakland County Prosecutor's Office sometime Tuesday or Wednesday, he said.
