Two male suspects were arrested Tuesday night after they allegedly broke into a Harper Woods home and shot the owner’s dog, police said.
Officers with the Harper Woods Department of Public Safety were called at 7:57 p.m. Tuesday to a home in the 19700 block of Country Club for a home invasion in progress.
The homeowner was able to leave the house after two men forced their way through a side door and shot his dog, wounding the animal. The victim called 911 and gave a description of the suspects and their vehicle.
According to police, two officers saw the fleeing vehicle and stopped it at Merlin and King Richard streets in Detroit. Both suspects fled on foot.
The driver was taken into the custody shortly after Harper Woods K-9 Kaiser was released from the patrol car. Police found the second suspect after Kaiser and Grosse Pointe Farms K-9 Duke searched the area with officers from several agencies.
Both suspects are being held without bond at the Harper Woods Department of Public Safety on multiple felony charges.
The victim’s dog was taken to a veterinarian.
Officers recovered the victim’s stolen belongings.
