Two men accused of breaking into a Harper Woods home Tuesday and shooting the owner’s dog have been charged, according to authorities.

Michael Jason Gadie, 42, of Warren, and Timothy Wade Horton, 48, of Detroit, were charged with several crimes in connection to the shooting, officials with the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office said Friday.

Gadie faces several charges including armed robbery, first-degree home invasion, five counts of felony firearm possession, killing an animal and resisting arrest. If convicted, then he faces up to life in prison for the armed robbery charge.

The two were formally charged with the crimes Friday and are scheduled to appear next in court on Jan. 17.

Horton also faces charges of armed robbery, first-degree home invasion and resisting arrest.

Harper Woods Police said the two men forced their way into a home on the 19700 block of Country Club Drive near Eastland Mall in Harper Woods on Tuesday.

Once inside the house, Gadie confronted two men who were inside the home, the 26-year-old home's owner and a 25-year-old St. Clair Shores man, with a gun, officials said.

As Gadie had a gun trained on the victims, Horton demanded they tell him where marijuana was located in the house, they said.

After hearing the commotion, the homeowner's dog jumped on the suspects and the gunman shot the animal and wounded it, according to authorities.

The homeowner escaped the house and the suspects forced the other victim to take them to where money and a garbage bag of marijuana were kept in the basement, police said.

Later, the homeowner called 911 and gave police a description of the suspects and their vehicle.

The suspects took the items, got into a car and fled the scene.

Police said two officers saw the vehicle and stopped it at Merlin and King Richard streets in Detroit. The suspects got out of the car and fled on foot.

Officers arrested the driver after a police dog was released from a patrol car. They found the second suspect later with the help of two police dogs.
