Craig Newmark announces he will match all $20 donations to any of CrowdRise’s Flint campaigns with 100 cases of water
Craigslist founder Craig Newmark is pitching in to help those affected by Flint’s water crisis.
Through the online fundraising website CrowdRise, Newmark’s craigconnects is pledging to match any $20 donation to any Flint campaign with a donation of 100 cases of water to the United Way of Southeastern Michigan. CrowdRise’s Flint fundraisers include initiatives with Pearl Jam, Big Sean and Jack White’s Third Man Records.
“I want to put clean drinking water into the hands of every resident of Flint, Michigan,” said Newmark, who spent 10 years living in Michigan, in a statement. “The situation is real bad and we need to get folks from across the US to support the people of Flint right now.”
Newmark’s water donation will top out at 25,000 cases. In addition, craigconnects will match monetary donations of $20 or more until $50,000 is raised.
Newmark is the latest in a growing number of Flint supporters. “Tonight Show” host Jimmy Fallon announced he was making a $10,000 donation to help those affected by the city’s water crisis, and Mark Wahlberg and Sean “Diddy” Combs have pledged to donate 1 million bottles of water to Flint through their company AQUAhydrate. Eminem and Wiz Khalifa are among those supporting the AQUAhydrate drive.
