Erin Cummings facing cancer battle
If you’ve wondered why you may not have heard much lately from Detroit’s own adopted daughter, actress Erin Cummings, here’s why. Perhaps you remember she married actor Tom Degnan in July of last year. What you probably don’t know is that she was diagnosed with breast cancer exactly two months later. “When we said, ‘In sickness and in health,’ we had no idea what was right around the corner,” says Erin, who immediately began treatment for the disease. Erin has kept her friends and fans in the loop and shares everything she’s learned and incorporates humor whenever possible and appropriate.
In January, she completed her chemotherapy and will continue targeted therapy until October. Next week, she faces bilateral mastectomy surgery and lymph node removal. Here’s an example of her admirable approach to lightening the moment. Yesterday, she posted this on her social media pages: “10 days from now, I will go under the knife, having my beloved breasts removed as phase two of my climb Up the Mountain. While a bilateral mastectomy is scaring the bejezuz out of me, I’ve decided to conquer my fear by celebrating my ta-tas and revisiting some of their best moments.” With that, until February 24, each day she will post sexy photos from her past movies that “celebrate my boobs,” she says.
Erin has been featured in “Feed the Beast,” “Madoff,” “Astronaut Wives Club,” “Spartacus,” and “Detroit 1-8-7.” Currently, other than some light voiceover jobs, she is concentrating on her health. She is eternally grateful to Wendy Shepherd, who heads up her nonprofit charity, Mittens for Detroit, which collects, purchases, and distributes new mittens and gloves to children and adults in need in Detroit. Who knew? Fantasia a big fan of Wahlburgers
In search of Metro Detroit’s best Italian food, R&B diva Fantasia popped into Bella Piatti in Birmingham Wednesday night. In town for a Friday night performance at Joe Louis Arena, the former American Idol winner enjoyed a romantic dinner with her husband, Kendall Taylor. But it wasn’t long before she found out that Nino Cutraro (who owns Bella Piatti with his wife, Elizabeth) also owns Wahlburgers in Greektown with actor Mark Wahlberg. “She told me she loves Wahlburgers,” explains Nino. “So on Friday, there will be a bunch of Wahlburgers waiting for her and her crew backstage at the Joe.” How’s that for customer service?
