Ray McCallum has been fired after eight years as University of Detroit coach, the school announced Friday afternoon.
Assistant coaches Steve Payne and Jay Smith were also let go.
McCallum was 130-132 in eight years, winning the Horizon League title in 2012 and earning an NIT berth in 2013.
Detroit finished this season 16-15, 9-9 in the Horizon League.
"After a careful and long review of the entire men's basketball program, I determined it was necessary to have a change in leadership," Detroit athletic director Robert Vowels Jr., said in a statement. "I would like to thank coach McCallum for his eight years of service at the University and for all of his efforts."
A national search for a new head coach will start immediately, Vowels said.
Michigan assistant Bacari Alexander, who went to Detroit, could be a top candidate for the job.
