Canton had three players score in double figures and used a tireless defensive effort to run away from Detroit Cass Tech, 56-30, in a girl’s basketball season opener Monday night.
Ashley Crisenti had 12 points, Erin Hult scored 11 and Carly Vaughan 10 for a Canton squad that got scoring contributions from eight of the 11 players on its roster.
Raya Ellsberry scored 12 to pace Cass Tech.
After going into halftime with a 22-12 lead, Canton was able to push its lead to 15 heading into the fourth quarter thanks to its up and down style of play.
“We’re always going to try and play fast and physical,” Canton coach Robert Heitmeyer said. “I think we wore them down with our deep bench.”
Canton’s good shot selection led to a 46-percent clip from the field, while its physical play got it to the charity stripe often, where it went 12-for-14 on the night.
“We’ve got a very unselfish team that took some good, high-percentage shots,” Heitmeyer said. “If we could do that every game, we’d be in business.”
Canton hosts Birmingham Marian on Tuesday night before hitting the road to take on another perennial power in Detroit King on Thursday.
