The Grosse Pointe North girls basketball team defeated Livonia Ladywood, 64-46, in the teams’ season opener in Livonia on Tuesday.

Julia Ayrault led Grosse Pointe North (1-0) with 19 points.

“Julia handled the ball a lot,” Grosse Pointe North coach Gary Bennett said. “She’s our floor leader, attacking the basket and pushing the ball up the floor. Overall, she was a big difference-maker.”

Michelle Bodnariuk scored 15 points and Katie Snow had 12 points for Grosse Pointe North.

Maggie Shirk scored 16 points for Ladywood (0-1), which was tied 18-18 at the end of the first quarter.

Grosse Pointe North led by three at halftime, but pulled away in the third quarter by outscoring Ladywood, 15-5.

“We tightened up our defense,” said Bennett, whose team sank four 3-pointers in the second half.

Abbey Reppen had 11 points and Brianne Rogers scored 10 points for Ladywood.

Detroit Voyageur 35, Detroit Public Safety Academy 31: Angel Gainey had 16 points, eight rebounds and five assists and Lunden Turner finished with eight points, 14 rebounds and three blocks for Voyageur (1-0). Ariyana Golden scored 14 for Public Safety Academy (0-1).

Dexter 32, Plymouth 29: Kristen Young scored 17 for Dexter (1-0). Mikayla Rose finished with 10 for Plymouth (0-1).

Macomb Lutheran North 52, Warren Woods Tower 31: Ashleigh Thomas scored 21 and Hannah Milligan had 15 points for Lutheran North (1-0). LeAnn Wilson scored 13 for Warren Woods Tower (0-1).

Madison Heights Lamphere 48, Clinton Township Clintondale 26: Allison Berger scored 15 and Daija Ray 11 for Lamphere (1-0). Clintondale is 0-1.
