Novi — Junior midfielder Caroline Wineman weaved through the Hartland defense and fired the winning shot into the lower corner to give Birmingham a 12-11 lead in overtime and send her team to the Division 1 girls lacrosse state finals Wednesday night at Novi High School, by a final score of 13-11.
Sophomore Kathryn Wujciak scored, senior Sofia Johnson had four goals and an assist, senior Danielle Augier scored, senior Grace Murray had three goals and sophomore Meryl Feys also scored three goals for Birmingham (13-9).
Junior Emily Beazley scored eight goals, junior Bella D'Arcy had a goal and an assist, senior Teagan Laier scored twice with an assist and Loran Wasik had two assists for Hartland (18-4).
Hartland took a quick two-goal lead, but Birmingham came roaring back and led 6-4 at halftime.
With 8:15 remaining, Hartland tied the game at 11 where it remained deadlocked.
The win avenges Birmingham's 12-9 loss to Hartland earlier in the season.
Birmingham plays Rockford at Brighton High School at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday for the Division 1 state championship.
