More businesses can get flood help
Detroit — Small businesses in more Michigan counties are eligible for low-interest loans from the U.S. Small Business Administration following flooding in August.
Macomb, Oakland and Wayne counties were hit hard by the flooding. Officials announced this week that small businesses, small agricultural cooperatives and most private nonprofits in counties adjacent to those counties also can get federal help.
In addition to Macomb, Oakland and Wayne counties, loans are available in Genesee, Lapeer, Livingston, Monroe, St. Clair and Washtenaw counties. Those affected may visit business centers set up in southeastern Michigan to help with flood recovery.
President Barack Obama last month signed a disaster declaration for Michigan. So far, the Small Business Administration has approved more than 540 loans totaling more than $11 million for Michigan residents and businesses.
