'Hiring our Heroes' job fair helps military vets

Detroit — More than 60 employers and 200 veterans participated in the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation and University of Phoenix's Hiring Our Heroes, held at Detroit VA Healthcare System on John R Street, in Detroit Saturday. The hiring fair was for veterans and military spouses seeking employment. The fair offered an employment workshop, tips on resume writing and interview skills and job search techniques. In March 2012, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation and Capital One launched Hiring 500,000 Heroes, a national campaign to engage the business community in committing to hire half a million veterans and military spouses by the end of 2014. Since then, more than 1,700 businesses have pledged to hire 585,000 heroes. To date, 369,000 hires have been confirmed.
