The Detroit Tigers, General Motors and the University of Phoenix are teaming up with veterans’ organizations to host a recruiting and hiring fair at Comerica Park and provide Tigers tickets to active and retired service members and their families.

The Hiring Our Heroes employment workshop will be held Thursday from 11:30 a.m.-3 p.m. at the ballpark ahead of the Tigers game against the Texas Rangers. Active U.S. Service members, veterans and spouses of either groups can register to take part in an employment workshop that covers resume building, networking, interview tips and how having a military background can aid in the job search.

After the workshop, volunteer career coaches will help attendees develop an “elevator pitch,” practice through a mock interview and refine resumes.

More than 60 companies and service organizations have already registered to attend the event, including General Motors, Quicken Loans, Comerica Bank, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan and Amazon.

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation, the Detroit Area Chamber of Commerce, the Michigan Veterans Affairs Agency and Livingston International brokerage service, among others, are also involved in putting on the event.

Attendees should bring copies of their resume and wear business casual or business attire.

All registered veterans and military spouses are eligible to receive up to two free tickets for them and their families to attend that evening’s game.

Those interested in participating are encouraged to register online ahead of time.
