Tire explodes at New Hampshire auto center, killing worker
Salem, N.H. — Police in New Hampshire say a large truck tire has exploded at an auto center, killing a worker and seriously injuring a customer.
Police say they were called to the Sears Auto Center in Salem at about 7:50 a.m. Saturday.
According to a 911 call, a caller reports that a worker was filling up the tire when it “exploded off the machine” and hit both men in the head.
Police say 22-year-old worker Justin Almon, of Sandown, died of head injuries.
Police say 23-year-old customer Adam Sproul, of Boothbay, Maine, was flown to Boston Medical Center with serious head injuries.
Salem police and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration are investigating.
Sears said in a statement that it’s working with authorities and extends its thoughts and prayers to both families.
