Detroit News journalists honored with national awards
Detroit News business columnist Daniel Howes, Lansing reporter Chad Livengood and autos reporter Melissa Burden are being honored in the annual Best in Business competition sponsored by the Society of American Business Editors and Writers.
Howes is the winner for commentary for daily newspapers with a circulation up to 150,000. The award was given for a series of columns that looked at challenges facing the auto industry and Detroit.
Livengood and Burden are finalists for government reporting. That category was open to all news organizations. The award is for a series of articles about $9 billion in tax breaks to Detroit’s Big Three automakers.
Awards will be presented in May at SABEW’s spring conference in Washington, D.C.
