“Whether traveling for business or leisure, we continue to meet the needs of our valued guests with more than 800 daily flights in over 300 markets originating from the West Coast,” said John Kirby, vice president of capacity planning at Alaska Airlines, in a statement.

Joe Cambron, air service development director at Metro, looks forward to the new route.

“Portland has been our largest market without daily service all year,” he said. “With the announcement, we fill in that blank and gain another market with competition — all in one.”

The news comes just days after Aeromexico launched its new service to Mexico City on April 1. Aeromexico flights to Monterrey begin May 1. Alaska Airlines continues to expand service from its West Coast hubs by adding nonstop flights to destinations like New York City, Philadelphia and Detroit.
