Sam's Club is introducing same-day home delivery service to Metro Detroit

The Walmart-owned membership-only retailer said Thursday it has partnered with San Francisco-based Instacart to begin providing the doorstep delivery service in nine communities in several new markets across the United States. It joins other retailers such as, Kroger and Meijer in offering a delivery option.

"Whether you are managing a household, business, or office, it's a time saver that is invaluable," said Sapna Mitchell, Instacart senior operations manager. "It allows you to take a step back and focus your time and energy into other areas. Everybody wants time back in their day. We can provide that increased quality of life."

Customers can order groceries, prepared meals and everyday essentials on Instacart's website or app. It will deliver in as little as an hour. The service is available to Sam's Club members and non-members alike, though members can receive loyalty rewards and lower pricing on items.

Locations in Auburn Hills, Canton, Madison Heights, Novi, Roseville, Southfield, Southgate, Ypsilanti and Utica all offer the service.

Instacart does charge a delivery fee. On orders larger than $35, the cost is $5.99. The company also offers an express membership for $149 or $14.99 per month that provide free, unlimited one-hour delivery on orders larger than $35.

Sam's Club began working with Instacart in February, though the delivery service is not new to the Detroit market. Since spring 2017, Instacart has offered delivery to a growing number of grocers in Metro Detroit, including Costco, Fresh Thyme, Kroger, Meijer and Plum Market, as well as CVS Pharmacy and Pet Co.
