Tim Gruber is the new president of the Detroit Free Press and Michigan.com.

Since April 2017, Gruber has overseen advertising sales in Detroit for Michigan.com, which includes The Detroit News and the Free Press, and Gannett Co. Inc.'s other papers in Michigan. He takes over for Brian Priester, who plans to retire at the end of September after 24 years with Gannett.

Eddie Tyner, president of Gannett's Midwest region, said in a Thursday email to staff that the company was looking for a "good leader for the organization and a leader in this community" and that Gruber "certainly meets those criteria."

Over the past 20 years, Gruber held several senior sales leadership positions at AT&T, Sprint and T-Mobile. The Michigan native attended the University of Michigan. He and his wife, Kim, have three daughters.
