Lowe's to close 51 stores, 2 in Michigan
Home improvement store giant Lowe's plans to close 51 of its locations in the U.S. and Canada, including two in Michigan, the company said Monday.
The two Lowe's stores in Michigan marked for closure are in Burton and Flint, it said.
Officials said the stores are under-performing and expected to be closed by Feb. 1, 2019, the end of the company’s 2018 fiscal year.
“While decisions that impact our associates are never easy, the store closures are a necessary step in our strategic reassessment as we focus on building a stronger business,” Marvin Ellison, Lowe’s president and CEO, said in a statement. “We believe our people are the foundation of our business and essential to our future growth, and we are making every effort to transition impacted associates to nearby Lowe’s stores.”
Based in Mooresville, North Carolina, Lowe's operates more than 2,390 home improvement and hardware stores in the U.S. and Canada and it employs more than 310,000 people.
Lowe's Burton store is located at 4274 East Court near Interstate 69 and Center Road. The Flint store is at 2100 T.A. Mansour Boulevard near Linden and Corunna roads.
