FCA investing $12.2M for Mopar parts facility in Va.
Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV is investing $12.2 million to build a new Mopar Parts Distribution Center in Winchester, Virginia.
The company announced the more than 400,000-square-foot facility on Thursday, with preliminary work underway. It is expected to open in the fourth quarter of this year.
“The opening of the Virginia PDC will significantly increase our dealer network strength in this important and growing market, improving customer service by delivering faster and more efficiently parts and accessories to dealerships,” said Pietro Gorlier, head of Fiat Chrysler global parts and service (Mopar), in a statement.
Once operational, the facility is expected to ship approximately 9.2 million parts annually to more than 200 FCA US dealerships, located primarily in the Mid-Atlantic region, as well as some locations in the East Coast, Midwest and South.
The facility expands Mopar’s North American footprint to 22 parts distribution centers, including a facility in Toluca, Mexico, that was inaugurated in February 2015.
Daily outbound shipments are projected at 24 tractor-trailers, with 10 inbound shipments each day. The Virginia center will include two shifts and create more than 70 jobs.
