Drag racing returns to Woodward Avenue at the Roadkill Nights event ahead of the annual Woodward Dream Cruise.

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles and Motor Trend Group plan to take over the M1 Concourse on Aug. 11 with the Roadkill Nights. The Dream Cruise takes place Aug. 18.

Roadkill Nights will offer $40,000 in prizes for drag-race winners. Last year, more than 40,000 people attended.

Dodge will also have "thrill rides" running in the 707-horsepower Dodge Charger and Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat models. FCA will drift and race those vehicles with enthusiasts inside.

Gary Box built his Roadkill Nights-winning, 1,300-hp Corvette dragster in 1999. He's put 40,000 miles on the odometer driving it around Cleveland

Gates are open for Roadkill Nights from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m., with Dodge Thrill Rides taking place from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. and drag racing from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.

General admission to the event is $10 per person, or $5 per person for Pontiac residents. The latter price is available on-site only. Children 12 years and under get in free.
