Demonic 2019 Dodge Hellcat Redeye gets 797 ponies

Now the Dodge Hellcat is possessed by a Demon.

Dodge rocked the muscle-car world last year when it introduced the supercharged 6.2-liter, 840-horsepower Dodge Challenger SRT Demon, the fastest production car ever through the quarter-mile. The Demon eclipsed Dodge’s already legendary, 707 horsepower Challenger SRT Hellcat.But clearly, 707 horses isn’t enough.

So for 2019, the Challenger SRT Hellcat has learned a few tricks from its demonic brother to kick up horsepower to a breathtaking 797 ponies. Dodge calls it the Hellcat Redeye. Not to be left out, the standard Challenger SRT Hellcat also gets a horsepower boost to 717.

The Demon infection doesn’t stop there. Across both the Challenger coupe and Charger sedan lineup, models are breaking out all over with bigger hood and grille intakes as well as swollen Demon-style wheel arches.

“With 840 horsepower, a 9.65 quarter-mile time and Guinness World Record certification that it’s the first production car to lift the wheels at launch, the Dodge Challenger SRT Demon earned its place in the record books,” said Steve Beahm, chief of FCA passenger cars. “The Dodge Brothers would be proud that we’re leveraging the power and performance of this proven engine to bring a Demon-possessed Challenger SRT Hellcat Redeye to an even wider high-performance enthusiast audience.”

When mated to Dodge’s quick-shifting 8-speed automatic transmission, the Hellcat Redeye will shriek from 0-60 mph in just 3.4 seconds over the 707-horse Hellcat’s previous 3.6. You’ll know the Redeye by the feverish, bright-red eye in the Hellcat logo behind the front wheel. 

All Hellcats also get a new dual-snorkel hood intake replacing the old single-intake wardrobe. The Demon’s signature “Widebody” wheel fenders were already available on the Hellcat – and for 2019 will also be passed down to the 375-horsepower Challenger’s R/T Scat Pack. Dodge says the wider body configuration – couple with bigger brakes and improved suspension – will improve the R/T’s track times by 2 seconds over a 2-mile track.

Not to be left out, the four-door Charger SRT Hellcat – the devil’s family sedan – also get Demon-inspired upgrades like twin grille intakes for better engine cooling and a line-lock burnout feature. So mom can lay rubber after picking up the kids from school.

Never mind an aging chassis – and no immediate plans for Dodge to upgrade to FCA’s more nimble Giorgio chassis used on cousin Alfa Romeo – Dodge has bucked the industry-wide slide in car sales by offering sexy, powerful sleds.

“Despite a shift toward utility vehicles in the United States over the past decade, the Dodge Charger and Challenger continue to buck the trend,” said Beahm. “Charger and Challenger retail sales have increased 70 percent since 2008.”

Hellcat Redeye pricing will be announced closer to its fall sale date, but expect it to be somewhere between the Hellcat’s $65,995 and the Demon’s $84,995.
