Allen Park — The Detroit Lions will open training camp light on pass rushers.

Two days after announcing Ziggy Ansah would be placed on the physically unable to perform list, the Lions announced Thursday that linebacker Devon Kennard and defensive end Cornelius Washington will begin camp on the non-football injury list.

The extent of either injury is not immediately known.

In addition to the designations, the Lions formally announced the signing of defensive tackle Ricky Jean Francois and linebacker Darnell Sankey. To clear the roster space, the team released undrafted free agents Al-Rasheed Benton and offensive lineman Beau Nunn.

Jean Francois split last season between two teams, finishing the year with the New England Patriots. He recorded 10 tackles in six regular season games, and added six tackles and a sack in the postseason for the Super Bowl runner-up.

Sankey is a 6-foot-2, 250-pound linebacker who went undrafted out of Sacramento State in 2016. Originally signed by the Denver Broncos, he’s spent time on six different rosters, appearing in six games for the Indianapolis Colts last season.
