Design awards go to Lexus, Chrysler Pacifica

The Lexus LC 500 and Chrysler Pacifica were named the best-designed new production car and truck/SUV of the year, respectively, Tuesday in the annual EyesOn Design Awards program.

The Lexus LC 500.

The awards were presented in conjunction with the Detroit auto show.

Other awards:

■Audi h-tron quattro, best-designed concept truck/SUV.

■Buick Avista, best-designed concept car.

■Acura Precision Concept, best use of innovative color, graphics and materials.

■■Lexus LC500, best-designed interior.

■Volvo S90, best-designed “human machine interface.”

■The late Strother McMinn as “designer catalyst.”McMinn was an influential automotive designer, writer and teacher at the prestigious Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California, for 50 years.

EyesOn Design, established in 1987 with the support of the Detroit Three automakers, celebrates great design with designers, collectors, manufacturers, suppliers, and the general public. The organization presents a series of events, including an annual car show and fundraiser, for the Detroit Institute of Ophthalmology.
