General Motors Co. CEO Mary Barra said Friday the name of the new top-of-the-range Cadillac will be up to Cadillac’s new president, Johan de Nysschen.

Barra, speaking at the Detroit Homecoming event with Crain’s Detroit Business Publisher Mary Kramer, said her newly named head of Cadillac is a “true luxury leader” and the name of the new car is his to work on.

“He’s completely empowered so I’ve got to leave it to him,” she said.

The new Cadillac will be built at GM’s Detroit-Hamtramck Assembly Plant, where Barra was once plant manager.

Barra said she would like to add more capacity at the plant. That could lead to a second shift.

“The ultimate is how successful those products are that generate that decision,” she said.

Barra wouldn’t talk about pricing of the new Cadillac.

“It’s the top of the line. It’s a luxury vehicle,” she said. “So it will be something that’s aspirational.”

Investor Warren Buffett recently bought a new Cadillac after talking with Barra about the new technology in today’s Cadillacs.

“I think I’ll be calling him again when we launch this one,” she said.
