General Motors Co. said Wednesday that the automaker and its joint ventures sold 291,371 vehicles in China in October, setting a new monthly record for October.

The sales pace rose 3.2 percent year-over-year, which is a smaller percentage increase than GM has typically seen this year in China.

GM said its China Buick sales in October rose 7.9 percent, while Chevrolet sales increased by 3.1 percent and Cadillac sales jumped 21.8 percent. Baojun sales increased 249.6 percent, while Wuling sales slipped about 10 percent.

Through October, GM and joint venture sales are up 10.7 percent this year to a record 2.87 million vehicles. China is GM’s top sales market and the automaker and joint ventures plan to invest $14 billion in China through 2018 to add five assembly plants and two powetrain plants.
