General Motors Co.’s Chevrolet brand is making available a new High Desert special edition package on its Silverado pickup this fall, the latest in several special editions Chevy is offering on the its full-size pickup.

The brand announced this week that the High Desert, based on a concept revealed at the 2014 SEMA Show, features different exterior styling and a new, lockable cargo system that is water resistant. The High Desert package, with looks a bit akin to the old Chevy Avalanche truck, will be available on the LT, LTZ and High Country trims.

“The High Desert package blends the capability and utility of Silverado with the refinement and luxury of Suburban,” Sandor Piszar, director of Chevrolet truck marketing, said in a statement. “It’s ideal for those customers who want both the security of a lockable cargo area, as well as the flexibility of a pickup truck bed.”

The High Desert features a new, lockable cargo system that is water resistant.

Chevy says a magnetic ride control suspension is available with the package on the Silverado High Country, the first time a Silverado has offered the suspension that Chevy says gives the vehicle “more precise body motion control.”

The cargo system includes dual side storage bins and a three-piece hard tonneau cover. Chevy says 20-inch wheels and all-season tires come on the LT package, while 22-inch wheels and all-terrain tires are available with the LTZ and High Country trims.

Pricing has not yet been released.
